ABOUT THE CITY

Maribor is the administrative, economic, educational, health, cultural, sports and tourist center of the North-Eastern part of Slovenia. It lies on the banks of the Drava river at the foot of Pohorje, and is the second largest Slovenian city with almost one hundred thousand inhabitants. It has a moderate climate with average higher summer temperatures around 26oC (in July and August) and average lower winter temperatures around -3oC (in January). The average annual rainfall is 1050 mm, while there are 266 sunny days on average.

 

Maribor is considered a safe city, as in fact all of Slovenia (which was among the 10 most safe countries in the world, and is the safest country for children in 2018). 

The majority of the population is of Slovene nationality and Roman Catholic religions, but there are also members of other nations and religions who also have their own cultural and religious organizations living in Maribor. Here you can also find specialized shops offering products from individual regions of the world as well as a culinary offer of various world cuisines. The trend of a healthy and active way of life and nutrition is also growing. Maribor also boasts with many green areas, high-quality air and drinking water, as well as the immediate vicinity of the primal natural forests.

The climate in Maribor is very pleasant, which results in the centuries-long wine-growing tradition of this city.

Drinking water supply: Maribor has high-quality “tap water” which everybody drinks with pleasure, so it is not necessary to buy bottled water.
